I was in the laundry room today…well everyday….and I looked at my unmatched sock bucket. Actually buckets. Ice cream tubs to be exact. A few feelings came up. The first was Uuugghh …where are the matches? Will this pile ever be gone? Then a more liberating thought rose to the surface. Throw them all out. Start new. Purge the pile!! A sense of freedom burned in me. Just the idea of allowing myself to pitch those socks and start new. A clean slate. So much hope. I thought about my mismatched life. Projects half done. Dreams not realized. The constant reminder things are not matched and neat. The feelings of failure that can rule me at times. Life can and is messy. Things don’t always “pair up”. The trick is knowing what to pitch and what is worth fighting for. Purging can be good, it can be great. Allow yourself to toss some things this new year. Give yourself permission to be free. Then figure out what you want to fight for and go for it. Don’t let anything stop you. Dare to dream. It’s in you. God has deposited dreams in all of us. It’s time!
