I was inspired to write about the death of Robin Williams. What a generous and important lesson to share with us all about the power of the mind and the power of our decisions. The most difficult time people are having with this tragedy is how it is that a person so well loved, so talented and successful would want to end his life in this tragic fashion. The lesson is for us to see clearly just how powerful our illusions of ourselves really are. To understand that taking our own council is not the best thing for us. I don’t claim to know what was going on for the man. But, what is important to pay attention to here is that for the rest of us, what was going on inside of his personal hell was clearly wrong! All he had to do was to look around him with open eyes. To see the joy that he’s brought to people’s lives for decades. To see the material success. If it is true that he chose to end his life then isn’t it obvious to us that he did this out of some thought about himself that was clearly wrong? The lesson is for us to be aware of the power of our interpretation of the world. How misguided we are when it comes to our self image. And how important it is for us to check in with those we love and who love us and believe them when the remind us of the love that shines in us. I’m grateful every day for my friends for this very reason. I know I can’t see myself for who I am. I need the people who love me to remind me of what I really am. Rest in peace, friend.
