I was involved in a car accident when I was 32 weeks pregnant. The vehicle that caused the accident fled the scene and was later caught and arrested. At the time I fought with the insurance company to fix my vehicle, which was not fixed and had wiring problems. Little did I know that was the least of what was caused by the accident. My baby suffered from severe head trauma. He was born with a hematoma (a huge lump on his head which is very common in newborns usually caused from birth). At two weeks old he was rushed to the er and was not breathing. He was admitted to leboneur childrens hospital when they discovered that he had entercoccal meningitis which is an infection in his brain and spinal fluid caused from head trauma and is very life thretening. He spent a couple of weeks there getting treatment. Due to the meningitis he has lost hearing in one ear. The whole time the doctors were telling us that the lump on his head was just under the skin and would resolve itself. He has cried 24/7 since he came into this world. I felt as a mother I had to get to the bottom of this and find out why and where he was hurting. I had them do an ultrasound of his head. They then discovered that his hematoma is not just under the skin it is under the skull. They said he would need surgery to remove it. On the day we found this out when we left the doctor my vehicle caught fire and burnt (due to wires being lose and touching from the accident). I have ask the insurance co for a rental which they denied my request. Yesterday we went to see the neurosurgeon to schedule his surgery. They turned us away and refused to see him because this was an accident and they will not get involved in litigation. They gave me two options, pay for surgery and sue the insurance myself or look for a neurosurgeon that will take this sort of case. I have no means of doing either. Due to this wreck I have lost everything my business, my vehicle, my home, and if my son does not get this surgery in time.
