I was just arguing on the internet about whether Fibromyalga is - TopicsExpress

I was just arguing on the internet about whether Fibromyalga is real. It appears the medical community is more inclined to accept it as a real condition than when I first heard about it and looked it up years ago (which makes me more inclined to believe it is real) but a lot researchers and medical professional remain skeptical. My position is it is likely real on some level but over diagnosed (I at one point was pretty confident it was wholly invented by the makers of Oxycontin). I will admit that Im curious to whether socially ingrained misogyny is related to both my own skepticism and that of the medical community. For example, in my own experience sufferers of the condition have tended to be female drug addicts and/or women who tend to complain about everything more than the average person. Women are much more likely to claim to suffer from it. Usually I would think the opinions of laypersons pretty worthless on a subject like this but since the medical community seems unsure I am wondering what my Facebook friends out there think? Real or not?
