I was just discussing this on the HHS Class of 61 page....When did the old Nickel Plate line, which is basically an alley running between Seminary and Main as far as what I still call the C & E I tracks, get officially named Cunningham Avenue? No doubt James A. Cunningham, mayor and prominent businessman of Hoopeston´s early days, was as deserving as the men whose names were given to Thompson, Wyman and McCracken Avenues, but it seems to me that, if that old railroad bank had to be named at all, it should have taken its own, real name: The Nickel Plate Road. My guess is that few folks even know it is called Cunnningham Avenue. If you go to Google Maps and switch from satellite to map view and zero in a bit, it shows that name.
