I was just sitting on my front porch during this rainy afternoon - TopicsExpress

I was just sitting on my front porch during this rainy afternoon thinking about the gigs I played this weekend with a few bands and some of the magic musical moments that happened on the 3 stages I shared. And then, my mind once again went to how blessed I am to play with such great musicians who have become great friends over the past months and years. People look puzzled at me and say, Now... how many bands do you play with, Pete?. I find it hard to make clear to folks that its really not the limelight of a stage, certainly not the money or the accolades of a fan (and the latter is much appreciated). And sometimes, not even the opportunity to express my self musically. More than that, its the time spent with like-minded individuals who are striving to conjure the spirit of music for a specified time and to let others (audiences) enjoy it also. Its a little less metaphysical than it just sounded, but close to what I feel. Its a nod, a smile, a glance or even a hey man.. you missed the cue from the men I play with on any given night. Or, its the moment when you play the exact same unrehearsed riff as your buddy up on stage... and neither one of you knew that you were going to play it. Its listening to the next guy, watching the dynamic, feeling the groove and sharing the excitement of what someone else did on the stage where you were standing. Thats why I play with multiple bands... Im a spirit of music junkie. I am enabled by the friends I am allowed to share the experience with... in varying combinations: Adam, Aaron, Bobby, Brandon, Brian, Chad, Don, John, Mark, Randall, Rick (two kinds of Rick) and Tim. My affection runs deep for these musicians. Thanks Brothers for letting me share the spirit of music with you. Pete Weeks
