I was just speaking with a comic friend of mine that Ive known for over 30 years. I told him I was reinventing myself because of my age. I want to share his response with all of my veteran performer friends because it was just so inspiring. Me: I just had a little work done and Im in the middle of healing. Its something I felt I needed to do in order to keep working in this crazy business of ours. My Friend: Good for you! You didnt come this far to quit now! You cant borrow or steal all of the experience youve got. You have to earn it and youve earned it. Once youve got that, you are at the top of your game. Nobody can ever take that away from you. Okay...so heres my point. When youve paid your dues and honed your craft and gotten the applause or the laughs in all the right places for decades...then you are a true pro. The newcomers may have youth on their side (and God Bless them). But us gypsies, we can sure rule a stage. A flower is most beautiful in full bloom...
