I was just talking over the fence with my neighbour. This is the property, over a hundred acres, that Id like to buy one day, to extend our farm. She bought two goats this summer, a mother and daughter. She has just told me that shes selling them at auction on Tuesday. The daughter could potentially be a good breeder, but the mother is spent and will likely be sold for meat. Shes hoping for $350 (combined), but clearly they stand no chance of being sold as a pair. I have a lot of issues with the farm across the road, and sneak over to check the animals often. They are an old school pair of farmers, this is how theyve done things for the 40 years that theyve had their farm. I know that the auction happens on Tuesdays, but the difference here is that Ive seen these goats, I know their story, and theres no way in hell that Ill sleep at night knowing that I didnt try to bring them to sanctuary. Can we do this? Can I ask that we all contribute a little bit, to get this pair here where theyll be safe? Yes, either way, Ill come up with the money- but having a human family as well as a farm family is not cheap...Ill feed and house them for life. Can we pull together and offer them a home?
