I was just talking to a friend this morning about Sophia - TopicsExpress

I was just talking to a friend this morning about Sophia transitioning to a new school in the fall. She asked if she was in a full inclusion classroom. My answer no. I went on to explain that I felt it best for her needs to be in a specialized classroom that has a very low student to teacher ratio where the amount of stress on her can be lowered significantly. Will the future hold full inclusion for Sophie someday? I dont know, but it is a goal of ours somewhere down the road. I dont understand the need that parents at times fight for full inclusion. Not that its the best for the child but because their child has the right legally to be there. Inclusion for things like art and music is currently part of her day along with programs such as circle of friends and lunch bunch which help her interact with typical peers without the pressure of academics. This totally works for us and her and will also be implemented in to Emmes day. So when I read this article today I felt validated. We are doing the right thing for our children. When you have a special needs child there is no room for pride or ego. Just do whats in the childs best interest.
