I was just talking with a friend about this movie. Personally i think its marketing genius to turn Bible movies into LOTR style epics. From a marketing stand point its logical and spot on. Plus movies with Biblical figures like Noah or Samson kinda puts it into a safer area than a movie about Moses or Jesus or an apocryphal story like THE ROBE or BEN HUR or BARABBAS. As i doubt folks would be quick as to take offense or consider the subject matter as blasphemous and at the same time may be viewed by secular audiences as less threatening and less prosletizing. That being said...i just dont know something about Noah being presented in the same way as Aragorn..i dunno somehow makes even a heretic like me feel some small tinge of awkward anxiety.
