I was just thinking of one of my best friends growing up, Patty PJ Thomson, who grew up right across the street from me, and just a few doors down from Chris Sarvinski. I used to give Conna Huddleston Rodrigues endless grief for playing Farmville all the time through Facebook when it came out (conveniently ignoring that up until about five years ago, I was constantly playing computer games), but she said, that no, no, the main reason I am on Facebook is because it has reconnected me with so many old friends and family. I really didnt get it until after Conna passed, but in the last several months it has been so great to be able to reconnect with so many friends from my childhood and high school. The reason I was thinking of you, Pj Thomson, is because it is just about Thanksgiving, and I started thinking about how we were both freshmen in college down in the Bay Area, and how we drove home in your Volkswagen Bug (it was orange, right????). For some reason I remember that the Police were playing on the radio, and also remember us talking pretty much nonstop the entire trip. Anyway, I have really appreciated your prayers and words of encouragement these past several months, as I have appreciated them from everybody. Believe it or not, I had someone tell me back in April that I needed to toughen up. I think I have mentioned this before, but a kind word is so much more appreciated than so-called advice like that. If these past thirteen months have taught me anything it has been to be more empathetic in my actions and kind with my words - I havent always been like that, but I am trying. Anyway, PJ, I just wanted to give you a shout out to tell you as I drove home from work tonight, I was thinking of our Thanksgiving trip home and back to school, and I so thankful we have been able to stay in contact through FB.
