I was just to Dr. Mohler speak of the Bible as a “limiting - TopicsExpress

I was just to Dr. Mohler speak of the Bible as a “limiting factor upon the way we do theology, and the way we construct doctrine, and the way we would exercise our religious imaginings. If we do not understand our limitation to this Book in terms of our authority in faith and life, we will become idolaters”. It occurred to me that, though our Constitution is not inspired of God in the same way the Bible is, the same applies. The Constitution has formed us as a “limited republic”, the limitations of which are virtually all upon the governing authorities. As we have incrementally ignored and moved away from the content of this document, we have at the same pace become worshipers of ourselves and our immediate “needs” and desires, no longer seeing or caring about the long-termed effect of such. The irony here is that by focusing on our own immediate needs, we fail to see that we are slowly and steadily giving ourselves over to be ruled (by our government) rather than served. The limitations the Scriptures put forth are to make possible and protect the relationship with our Creator. The limitations of Scripture are there to prevent us from becoming slaves to sin and the evil one. Similarly, the Constitution limits the governing authorities so as to preserve our freedom. We tend to praise those who think “outside the box”, but sometimes the “box” is there for our protection.
