I was just waking up and fixing a cup of coffee. It was a beautiful morning, hope and optimism filled the air, I had recently received a diagnosis and a plan of action to try again for a baby after recently recovering from my 5th miscarriage. I turned the TV on as I usually did just for some company, the house was empty. My husband and our roommate worked together and had already left. I worked nights at a popular restaurant in Mt Pleasant, so it wasnt uncommon for them to sneak out and let me sleep. The images on screen were difficult to wrap my mind around, I wasnt sure exactly what It was I was looking at when the first World Trade Center was on fire, and that is when a plane crashed into the side of the second building. In a matter of minutes, I saw thousands of lives being forever changed, America was under attack What I did not know was how these events would impact me a year later. Our effort to try again was successful and I became a widow, I was only 23 years old. The first few weeks I was in a fog, it really was shock, my life had been forever changed, I no longer had dreams. Eventually that fog lifts and you begin to pick up the pieces. I had a hard time dealing with the loneliness and needed a friend, I craved a friend who had been there. I went to church, but my situation often scared people away. I searched for a young widows support group online and became connected with an AMAZING group of ladies from across the nation! Most of them mothers and all under 40. A great many of them lost their husbands in the 9/11 attacks. They became my friends, my encouragement, and my support just by sharing their stories and crying with me every night after we got the kids to bed. In Psalm 46:10 Our God says, “Calm down, and learn that I am God! All nations on earth will honor me.” Today when I remember the 9/11 attacks I remember the families forever changed that morning. I remember the random acts of kindness and compassion our country demonstrated and leaning on each other despite the evil intentions that surrounded us. God was with our first-responders who sacrificed their lives for others as they ran to the destruction as many ran away. God was with those men who took down the terrorist over that Pennsylvania field preventing further loss of life. God was with those hard-nosed CEOs who contributed millions to the family who lost loved ones that day. And God was with those widows as they were there for me during my own crisis. What happened that morning was horrible, but God was there and He did transform it to glorify Him. What an awesome God we serve, I will NEVER FORGET!
