I was just wondering something with all these folks being apart of tearing up their own communities were they ever punished as children? Were they ever taught right from wrong or could it be they just dont care? These folks are putting our sweet children and grandchildren at risk and that is why we must take care of business when it arrives. Seems to me that we all have looked away for too long. These are our communities , our children , our homes and it is up to us to help keep them safe. I can actually say that if they were raised under my parents roof oh lawd then they would be giving back to society instead of taking from it!! I am not ashamed to tell that my mom and dad would hit me with a switch or get a belt on my butt and yes it hurt like hell. The only part that didnt make sense to me at the time was when they would tell me this hurts me more than it hurts you and I am thinking under my breath yea right! I reckon I am a little old fashioned or even old school but we pretty much raised our twin daughters the same way I was raised. I just figured if my parents could raise 5 girls and 1 boy without any problem then I reckon it would work for my two. I learned that having a good attitude and being comical worked for my husband and I at the time. When our children approached us about a cell phone see I thought that was funny because I laughed and looked at Donald and said this is going to be good and it was. Oh they had tons of good reasons why they needed one and lawd they even threw in the fact that we would know where they were all the time:) My response was do you have a job ladies they responded no mommy I asked them how do you plan to pay for the bill because its not free their response we thought that since you loved us so much that you could give us enough allowance to cover the expense I said so yall have this all figured out right? I broke it down to these sweet children and told them that NO there will be no cell phone I already know where you are all of the time! They replied but mommy all of our friends have one (every kid says that right?) I told them I am not responsible for your friends and they responded but mommy we can talk to our friends on the phone I looked at them and I said look ladies you see your friends at school and we have 3 landlines in this house pick either one to communicate with your friends. Folks keep in mind that a childs brain takes awhile to develop and thats why they have parents so they can make good decisions for them. Sure your children will get mad and oh lord they will cry and some will scream out I hate you but I know in my heart that if I had given my daughters everything they wanted in life as a child then I would be broke as a convict and they would never respect anything or have goals to work toward anything in life how could they if they had already been handed everything on a silver platter. Discipline is a part of love and its hard to do when you have those sweet little eyes looking at you but we must keep in mind that these children will grow up! I recall daddy saying that the prison is full of what use to be someones cute little boys and girls. Prepare your children for the outside world. Always be honest with your children and for goodness sakes know where they are and who they are with. What worked for my children may not work for yours but you have to keep searching for a way to reach your children. A lot of children have anger issues from playing video games I know this I have seen it first hand. They need to channel that anger into something like running , ball or whatever but anger builds up to no good. I enjoy seeing so many local children playing ball and the parents are right in there with them and that certainly makes my heart smile. It tells me they are not at home playing video games. If your children dont like playing in the yard then let me know cause I will locate something to put in your yard for them to want to go outside for. Anytime I see a child cut a buck I dont think hard of the child I just look at the parent and wonder how in the world can a grown woman have problems trying to calm down a 2 year old but instead she just keeps walking like the child doesnt exist. Whats up with that? A lot of children have a tough job because they have some mighty tough parents and some are left to raise themselves. Is this the generation of children that had to learn on their own destroying our communities? I miss my mom cause she had the best advice on parenting along with so many other things. My dad would tell me in a skinny minute Joanie why are you trying to buy those kids everything , its not what you can buy they need cause after awhile that will wear out then whats your next step my dad was always right and he didnt beat around the bush so to speak. With this being said , between the bible, discipline the opportunity we gave them to further their education and a whole bunch of love not to mention the awesome village it took to raise our daughters we can say that we are so proud of them both. They have families of their own and I see that my daughters are even using some of our parenting techniques I guess they figured if the plan worked for them then it would work for their children as well. It tends to move to the next generation. They tried time out and lets just say my grandchildren knew how to get around that really quick. I believe that if you earn what you get then you will certainly appreciate things a little bit better. We had house rules and a monthly family meetings but the dinner table is where we learned the most. Use your family dinner tables they are there for a reason. There is no words that can describe the feeling of being a parent. We wear many hats not just moms but dads too. I dont really compare it to a job cause you can quit and walk away from a job right? Children are a blessing but God and should never be taken likely. I am not telling you to spank your children but I am saying to find the solution that works best for your child for whatever obstacle comes along. I truly believe that any family that prays together stays together. TIP for the children: Living in a small town someone is always watching you and will tell your parents.
