I was looking for a good quotes about poverty alleviation when I stumbled upon this ridiculous and shallow statement: “MT [Mother Teresa] was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction.” ― Christopher Hitchens Seriously? So, feeding, clothing, hugging, taking them off the street, and whatever things that Mother Theresa did to make the dying and forgotten feel dignified as a human being made her NOT a friend of poverty? So youre saying that giving contraceptives is THE solution to their hungry, roofless, sick, and dying people in the poorest part of India? Really? Well, its really easy to say something like that if one is living in luxury and being as far away as possible from the poorest of the poor.
