I was mobbed today. Our local Builders Warehouse (large builders supermarket) has young workers - tilers, carpenters, tilers, plumbers, electricians, builders, pavers etc - camped outside 12 hours a day looking for work. I drove there today looking for a guy to help me clean my renovated townhouse. I stopped my car where they were camped, got outside to talk to them to find a suitable helper. About 100 guys instantly surrounded me shouting: PICK ME! PICK ME! PICK ME! TAKE ME! Pandemonium ensued. The desperation for work was palpable. They were all shouting to me, pushing and shoving for my one single four hour job. I got scared and managed to get back in my car. My car became surrounded - all shouting for the job. I drove to the entrance, near security while about 50 of them ran behind my car. I parked near security and selected one who got it in my car. The others looked so downcast and disappointed. This was a wake up call for me. I felt quite emotional. Unemployment in our country is at crisis levels, thanks to Zumas ANC. And here were over 100 guys camped from sunrise to sunset in the hope of a few hours work - they are camped there day in and day out, at one store. If ever anyone tells me of the lazy, unmotivated South Africans I will tell them to take a drive to Builders Warehouse and offer someone a few hours work. These guys are desperate, and I take my hat off to them for their perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds. Time to vote the selfish, economy-destroying ANC OUT!!!
