I was most heartbroken to hear of the death of Latore - TopicsExpress

I was most heartbroken to hear of the death of Latore Mackey...another young innocent Bahamian man unexpectedly taken from this life by the evils of crime. Latores death comes a day before my brother Kurts birthday who was also viciously taken from this life 10 months ago and who would have celebrated his 44th birthday tomorrow. I was also sadden to hear of all the other murders and crimes committed over the weekend in the Bahamas...New Providence in particular. I am presently off the island, in a first world country, in a city of millions of people, where the crime is almost non existent. Whereas, my Bahamas...a country of less that 400000 people and the crime rate is higher per capita on an island 21 by 7 than anywhere in the region and perhaps the world!!! We all would agree that it is not better in the Bahamas. Something must be done and done now. I pray to the Almighty to comfort the family and friends of all victims of crime and I particularly pray to the Almighty to bring healing to our country. We seem to be a country that has lost all essence of morality. Our young people, in particular, do not respect other peoples property and life. Being our brothers keeper is far removed from our hearts. We truly need an intervention because as it stands now, it just is not working for us in this country!!! I do not think the Almighty wants it this way. We are His beloved people...I know this...but I think we have turned our backs to Him. We MUST get back to that place where we embrace the Preamble of our Constitution. Our laws must be respected and the ultimate respect must be had to our brothers and sisters. And yes...we are our brothers keeper! And for those persons who fall outside of this equation, they must be punished to the fullest extend of the law post haste!
