I was moved by Googles tribute to Dian Fossey today. It would have been her 82nd birthday. I was on Google around 2:30 in the morning and couldnt stop reading about her. Ive dreamed of going to Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo but the area is so marred by violence (bloomberg/news/2014-01-13/democratic-republic-of-congo-clash-leaves-4-dead-in-gorilla-park.html) that the park is now closed to visitors. And park rangers are losing their lives. The Rwandan FDLR militia (gorillacd.org/blog/), remnants of which carried out the 1994 genocide in that country, just killed a ranger this week.
