I was nominated and I was challenged —yes the ice bucket - TopicsExpress

I was nominated and I was challenged —yes the ice bucket challenge. However, I will have to say No. But I do believe in the worthy cause on ALS awareness. The campaign is commendable to say the least. Instead of having someone pour a bucket of ice and cold water over my head, I am challenging myself in producing a material that would contribute to the awareness on the said illness as a future goal. When I was in my younger years, a cousin of mine fell ill and the most prominent manifestation of her illness was the slow and creeping loss of her muscle control until she could no longer move. We sent her to several hospitals for diagnosis but the doctors then cannot tell what was wrong with her. She grew up in Masbate where there are strong beliefs in engkantos (mystic creatures). Quack doctors (called albularyos) also took turns in treating her but to no avail. She lived a number of years bedridden and immobile until her death in the mid 90s. Reading the information links on ALS now made me look back and wonder if my cousin had ALS. I witnessed a very sad story of living, without moving, and feeling without expressing. If that was ALS —its agony and pain beyond description.
