I was nominated by a couple of friends for the ALS Ice Bucket - TopicsExpress

I was nominated by a couple of friends for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge but I am neither donating nor pouring ice water on myself. Why? Because I neither have the money nor do I want to waste water(I believe we do plenty of wasting anyway). Believe me, Im not hating on people who are doing this challenge. Much awareness has been spread through this which is great. However most people dont know what ALS even stands for, let alone what this disease is capable of. So instead of uploading a video of myself getting drenched in ice water Id like to share some knowledge about this disease. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS is characterised by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle atrophy, and difficulty in speaking, swallowing and breathing. ALS is the most common of the five motor neuron disorders. Stephen Hawking was diagnosed in 1963 and has had ALS for over 40 years among others. There is no cure but ALS can be managed to some extent through extensive treatments, however the survival rate is very low. If you want to help in any way in order for these sufferers to get aid in treatment go to this website: alsa.org . Again, Im not trying to spread hate, just awareness in a different way. Judge me all you want and if youre bothered by this status simply ignore it. :)
