I was nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by Elise Flanagan, and I nominate Craig Bishop, Shanna Stilson, and Cindy Vela. I did things a little different and chose not to donate to the ALS. I joined a growing number of people who took the challenge, but made it our own by choosing to raise awareness and attention to other causes/organizations that we feel strongly about supporting. I choose to mention and donate to: The LDS Perpetual Education Fund and The Water Project. The LDS Perpetual Education Fund helps people in poorer countries get access to a college education where they otherwise wouldnt have had a chance. It provides a way for them to pay it forward. The Water Project helps fund fresh water wells and other great water projects in developing communities in Africa. I encourage everyone to look at this ice bucket challenge with optimism. Our social media sphere is filled with trends that are not only useless, but mind numbing like the twerking videos, Harlem Shake, etc. This is the perfect marriage of viral social media and charity. If you dont care about the ALS, but want to focus on something else, get creative and make it your own. If youre concerned with the waste of water, then pour sand and donate to water conservation efforts.
