I was nominated to list 10 songs that changed my life, by Alex - TopicsExpress

I was nominated to list 10 songs that changed my life, by Alex Peters. Im really surprised at all of the other ones Ive seen...they make me feel like a turbo geek. Mines basically gonna be 100% electronic. 1. The Flashbulb - Lawn Wake IV This was the first big one for me. I had heard a lot of Electronic Music already, got hooked on lots of IDM and Breakcore as a kid, but something about the sheer insanity and vibe of this track really turned me on. Its the first time I started to associate musical notation and texture with visual color and shape. Kind of the first wow, I REALLY want to learn to make this stuff now moment. 2. DJ D & Outblast - Electroshocking By the time I had heard this I was a pretty big Gabber fan anyways, but this one is still by far my favorite anthem of all time. Brings back a lot of memories to those times in my life and was the tune that helped start a solid friendship with me and Justin J Holla Hollermann, which led to me actually having a social life in high school, and was part of the adventure that saved me from serious depression. 3. Aphex Twin - Bucephalus Bouncing Ball This was either the first IDM tune I heard after I knew what IDM was or the first time that I really really enjoyed IDM. I bought this on Napster or iTunes or one of those old music buying programs after my Mom had got me a giftcard. This was during the times I was still searching P2P networks for Techno, looking for anything that didnt have lyrics and was made primarily with synths. 4. Darren Styles & Breeze - Youre My Angel (Scott Brown Remix) Serious personal and emotional memories here. I was a sappy, hopeless high school romantic once too. I used to cry a lot, this was part of the soundtrack. 5. Adam Harris - Heavens Above (Hixxy Remix) Anyone whos known me for a while or knows me really well probably knows that I was a raging Happy Hardcore addict when I was a teenager and Im not really ashamed of it. This tune was the opening song on Bonkers 11 and I spent many bike rides to Maplewood Mall (to play DDR, nonetheless) listening to this compilation. Although Im not embarrassed that I listened to a lot of this stuff, Im embarrassed about the content of my imagination while I was listening to it, and I think Im gonna keep that personal :P 6. Lamb Of God - Ruin (the only non-Electronic song on this list) Metal with screaming in it wasnt my thing at this point. I was mostly listening to Power Metal and Melodic Death Metal because I had been playing a lot of Stepmania, and guitar solos make for good step charts. Howie Freeman showed me this song in like Junior year and it got me started on my path through Metalcore and Progressive and Djent and shit later on. Hey, I was even a terrible screaming vocalist in our Metal band in high school. Theres videos on the Internet somewhere, dont look them up. 7. Pendulum - Tarantula, Sounds Of Life, Hold Your Colour (basically the whole Hold Your Colour album) D&B started with Tarantula in particular, then the whole album, then Breakbeat Kaos Gold, and then I got keyed into Technical Itch and Limewax and the Hardstep/Skullstep sounds. I still listen to Hold Your Colour pretty regularly, its my favorite night time driving album, and I like to do a lot of thinking on night drives. Pretty sure Mr. Alex Peters showed me this tune himself, so thanks buddy! 8. Shyft - Forfeinhausen (Bad Replicant) Not the first Shyft tune I heard but definitely the most memorable and a source of laughs for both of us for years now. The beginning of a beautiful bromance after several years of not seeing each other and a childhood before that of me forcing him to watch me play video games. Good to know Im still the alpha male though...right? 9. kashyyyk - Mor 1 Blame Pistoff Cristoff for showing me this tune and making me fall in love with Dark Psytrance. I had gotten into Infected Mushroom at a young age but this sealed the deal on the Darkpsy sound and solidified the bond with one of my best friends in the Mounds View days...where ya at Stoph? Hes probably doing some mad scientist shit somewhere. 10. Babylon System & SPL - Gangster Royal Pierre II showed me Excisions Shambhala 2008 mix for the first time in his car, presumably after we got into some weird shit, and I was probably pretty baked. I might have heard Dubstep before this but that mix was the first time I really enjoyed it and this tune specifically is what got me hooked. I had no idea how serious I would get into this subgenre at the time, as I was still producing and playing Hardcore/Breakcore/Skullstep. Its been a long adventure since then and has changed me as a person, from changing my main identity to Johnny Foreplay, to playing for Alex Toffler all these years at TCDubstep shows. The people who Im interested in hearing this list from have mostly answered but I might tag a couple people in the comments who might be interested. Dont feel obligated to write an essay like me, though. I just like to talk.
