I was on my way back from souk/the post office today, on top of the world because I was carrying not one, but TWO care packages. I was almost home when I was set upon by a group of boys. I know them and normally they are not problem, but as soon as I appeared they surrounded me. They asked me what was in the packages. I replied with, gifts from America. They demanded I hand the boxes to them and, when I laughingly said no, they pounced and took my water bottle from my outside pouch. They tried to get it open, claiming they wanted a drink. Now, considering these kids had earlier gotten their spit all over my whistle, I didnt want anymore of their bacteria on my stuff. They started to put it back but I could feel something else happening. I couldnt see it though, because I was holding my two big boxes. Turns out while one boy was putting the bottle back others were unzipping my backpack. The little shits would have stolen from me--laughing in my face while they did it--if not for two Moroccan men who came and stopped them. Together we shamed the kids (though their smug smiles told me they didnt regret it) and the men cleared a path for me to my house, which wasnt far. I dont really get it. I know these kids, I see them almost every day. Earlier they greeted me, shook my hand and were going on about how nice I was. Im disappointed first by what they did and also by why they thought they could do it. What I want now is to learn how to say, I will not give this to you. You didnt earn it. If you want something work for it. Dont steal it you two-faced little f**ktards. Okay. Rant over. Im going to go to teach a class and then open some care packages.
