I was out doing errands and listening to Mark Steyn who is filling in for Rush Limbaugh today. Pat from Colorado called in and said his home is subject to regular inspections by the U.S. Department of Agriculture because he takes his Great Dane to visit kids. He must comply with a number of regulations including a prohibition on carpet in his home, and even if he stops taking his dog to visit kids he will be subject to these regulations and inspections as long as his dog lives. Today the House of Representatives voted to fund the government sans Obamacare. As expected, Democrats are taking to the airwaves to describe the horrors that are about to be inflicted on America because of this cold, callous act. However as Steyn pointed out, in a sane world, tough financial times would have made inspections on people like Pat and his dog much less frequent. Or they would have been done away with completely in order to save money. Needless to say if the President and the Democrats shut down the government over Obamacare, Pat and his dog will still be inspected with the same frequency and things the government is supposed to do will be at risk.
