I was out of the country for most of the Ebola Panic phase brought - TopicsExpress

I was out of the country for most of the Ebola Panic phase brought on by Dallas and subsequently New York. With spotty Internet connectivity, we were out of the most repetitive components of the news cycle. The panic was largely irrational and misplaced. There was very little chance, give the resources available in the US, that this would ignite an epidemic here. But panic - in the short term - is not always irrational, particularly when it spurs necessary action. And as I have been saying for months now, a form of panic is needed to recognize the dire threat that Ebola poses for the world out there. Imagine it getting loose in the slums of Mumbai, or Lagos, or Shanghai. We should be panicking. And we should be very worried that nobody seems to be.
