I was pondering what fire was the other night. Fire isnt heat, it emits heat. It isnt light itself, it emits light. Fire itself is actually the oxidation of chemicals coming off the material that is burning; a name for the whole process if you will. The light itself is emitted when atoms lose energy in the process, releasing photons. This is why fire goes out if it runs out of fuel. It loses its energy as light radiation. Those photons then come back into contact with other materials and merge with the electrons, exciting them. The energy then continues to transfer to other less energetic materials until equilibrium is acquired. Physics is fascinating. It took looking through about 10 different webpages to fully map out this phenomenon, lol. Most webpages just werent technical enough. So much going on in a fire. Heat, energy, convection, radiation, ionization, electric sparks. Pure chemistry. Its magnificent. (:
