I was pregnant this year unexpectedly, but since I already have a two year old daughter, I had to abort the baby. I didnt want to break the one child only law, and I also didnt want to risk getting fined or possibly losing my job. Im an English teacher, and it is what I wanted to be when I was young. My parents gave me the name, Ying, which means intelligent, when I was born. They are both teachers, and they advised me to also be a teacher. My mother especially was a real example to me. Im now 35 and have been a university teacher for 12 years. I enjoy imparting knowledge to the students and especially get excited when they are enthusiastic about the classes. It is hard work to prepare my classes and is also difficult when students are sometimes not interested in the material or in learning. Im returning to China now after being in England for a six week teaching methodology course. My grandparents were simple village farmers. When the Japanese came into northern China in the early 1900s, they tried to make it a Japanese colony. People were forced to study Japanese in the schools, and in the case of my grandfather, he was forced to become a soldier in the Japanese army. Fortunately, he was able to escape and make his way back to his hometown. I met my husband when we were in school, and nine years later we were married. I hope that my daughter will one day have a healthy and happy family and will be able to find a good job. It would be very nice if I could live near her one day, but at the same time, I want her to be able to make her own choices about life. When I was in school, I put a fair amount of pressure on myself to excel and to be the best. So, because of that, school was pretty hard for me. We have all received a lot from other people, and I believe its important for us to have a grateful attitude toward others because of the many ways that we are helped by them.
