I was raised a Catholic. I became an Atheist in and right after undergrad school and for a significant portion of my life was a Buddhist. I lived with a Sri Lankan Monk for over a year here in Pekin and helped start a Buddhist temple in the Chicago area, supporting a dear friend of mine at the time, another Monk from Sri Lanka. Nothing seemed to totally satisfy me although Buddhism, in its philosophical form, came very close. LOL I remember one of my students in the Chicago area exclaiming ‘He’s a Buddhist, no wonder he’s so nice!’ when she found out. But something was missing. When I retired one of my bucket list items was to read the bible closely and study it. This led to more research, prayer, and much pondering. Beau helped baptize me at his church in Jacksonville where he was an assistant youth pastor last summer. My journey to Christ was slow and arduous and took many years. It wasnt easy nor fly by night. It’s not over yet by a long shot and every day I fall well short of God’s glory and grace. But I feel I have a complete belief system now that includes Science, etc. meshing with my faith and belief in God, I wish all of you good luck on your journeys. LOL I’m out of the closet as it were.
