I was randomly listening to this song earlier, and it struck me how vibrant and full of life Whitney Houston was in the eighties. She was 23 when she sang How Will I Know, and its crazy to think that someone so talented and energetic would die before they turned 50. It tragically speaks to how messed up our society has it on handling addiction. We need to treat addiction as a medical condition, because it is. We need to remove the insane stigma of addiction, so that people wont feel so ashamed of it that treatment is avoided. We need to find a way to better educate people about it, especially prescription drug addiction. Otherwise we will just continue to have talented people like Whitney Houston, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Lenny Bruce, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and talented, wonderful people in your life or that youve known die way too soon.
