I was reading a comments section when I saw my male cousin get put down because hes a man. The original article was about a woman being stoned to death, and he was being compared to the men who stoned her. Its been hours, and it has gone unanswered. Clearly the admin is at church, so let me say this. Thats not ok. Its not ok to blame any individual for a murder they didnt commit, and I request you step off of him. Moreover - and Im talking to all #yesallwomen activists here - if you dont figure out that you are collapsing men and privilege we will only continue this same treachery either as is or under different oppressors. It doesnt make sense to hate men. It makes absolute sense to hate privilege. And before you map me into #notallmen, please try to hear this newly. Ive heard women argue that men are indefensible, and that women who defend them should be cast out. Ive seen women build cases that they are biologically superior to men (much like the MRA groups we seem to be so disgusted by). On some of my friends pages, men arent even allowed to speak. I think there is a time and a place to have privacy and work your stuff out with whatever group you choose (its starting to sound like some may prefer a safe container with professionals, but there really is a rightful place for collective social anger and processing. This is a long time coming). And at some point, maybe not today, maybe not all at once - but SOMEDAY - women are going to have to stop licking their wounds, get up and start creating a life that actually works for all people, including men. If we arent working through our pain against a background of that possibility, then this is just more hate and destruction - stop kidding yourself. Weve got to think and love bigger than a bumper sticker if were gonna create a just world; and almost universally regardless of religious belief or atheist moral conclusion, we all seem to be convinced that the state of this world is - in fact - up to us. Its time to hit the books and start really understanding the degree to which you are part of a system that is driving many individual (including your own) decisions. This imaginary construct of 100% responsibility is being driven too far. Our collective inability to hold the macro and micro at the same time is hurting us. By getting who you are in the world you will get who they are in the world, and you will get the world. Not you first, them last or them first or you last or all of us instead of me or just me. This isnt linear. We arise together - like the front and back of the hand.
