I was reading about the differences between liberal and Conservatives. Theres someone whos posts I always followed , and I noticed that most of the posts were along the lines of conservatism. beliefs in Capital punishment, waging wars , self defence , right to arms and practicing their use.etc ... Thing is ...I dont really get this teaching at all from the bible. Even the bible verses used to support those ideals are twisted. WIth random claims like - Jesus told disciples to get a sword(It doesnt say the sword was for self defense though) - Jesus doesnt really entertain the use of the sword when Peter used it. - a verse about government bearing the sword is used to imply that capital punishment is ok. We dont really get such teachings in the bible. I know its in our nature to defend - but to make Christian authority out of it bothers me. The kinds of defence the bible normally lists is escaping or submission ( turning the other cheek). Please understand something about me - When I read the bible , I throw away my feelings and thinking , everything away - as I try to find out what God really expects of me. Im not interested in political drama that humans throw themselves in - Im not bothered. I just want to know what the bible says and from what Ive read. The bible has no such a message of pro-physical war, self defence, capital punishment unless you translate sword to murder, defence and capital punishment while the rest of the bible shows other messages when concerning Christians. I just think Conservative Christianity is no different from Liberal Christianity. Theres just one true Christianity and its not politically aligned. And another reason why human politics should be seperated from biblical Christianity unless the people are 100 percent submissive to biblical Christianity. Instead of Christianity being used as a tool - to garner votes etc and satisfy political goals of a party. Christianity is not a tool. Its an escape from the 2nd death - its greater than politics, its greater than a country.
