I was reading an article today, by OLATUNJI DARE. I was astounded at the lack of depth, exhibited by the President. In all the furor generated by Buhari, not presenting his credentials for scrutiny, the Jonathians have shouted themselves hoarse as to the fact that the President has a PhD. Now, please permit my rather pedestrian analysis. I have always told anyone whom, i have close associations with, that i believe that people in my generation, got the last of the best, that education in Nigeria had to offer, without paying an arm and a leg, as we now do for our kids. I know that President Jonathan and myself, are in the same generation, he being in his 58th year and I in my 50th year. So, i think it stands to reason that he should have at least, gotten a fairly decent education, even in the village school, he attended in Oloibiri(i believe). If he had smooth sailing as we hare made to believe, then he should have gotten into the University system, at a time, when quality was the watchword. He was able to pursue and obtain a PhD, which suggests to me that he should be rather cerebral! Right? Wrong! We have constantly, heard him release gaffe upon gaffe, when he ventures from his prepared scripts and presumes to ad lib. Please read our Presidents own words. They are instructive and will show us, to a large extent why we are where we are today. Personally, i will say that his achievements have been modest. With the amounts of money, we have made from oil, under his watch, these achievements may be termed by some to be miniscule, rather than modest. This are our Presidents words: If you look at what we have been doing as a nation, you really see that before this time when Nigeria used to have what we call 25-year rolling plan,w e used to budget based on a 25-year clear plan for the country, so you know where you are going for 25 years then it was broken down to 5 years plan and now an annual budget. :But after sometimes(i think it should be sometime)things collapsed and we run governments on emergency basis and you see government started wobbling and i can assure you that we are going back to those good old days when we had vision. Folks, please analyze this statement! Are we to take this to mean that our President agrees to floundering for the six years of his period thus far? Are we to take this to mean he and his crew have been been wobbling? Are we to take this to mean that they have been vision less? Are to conclude that we have been drifting in thebad days. Are these the words a President should utter? Do they inspire confidence? Are they not indicting of his government? Are we to conclude that what we have been experiencing is an emergency style approach to government? I have said, and do maintain, that President Jonathan, may be a decent chap at heart, as posited by many. But, has refused to grow into his job. Does not seem to possess those qualities, which I have come to associate with PhDs i know. The purpose of this rather long winded treatise, is to say.......that Degree, dont mean nothing, where GEJ, is concerned! For the records, WE NEVER BUDGETED ON A 25 YEAR BASIS! JUST IN CASE ANYONE THINKS I COOKED THIS QUOTATION UP, PLEASE READ HIS ADDRESS AT THE DUNAMIS INTERNATIONAL CHURCH, ABUJA, ON NEW YEARS DAY!
