I was reading some posts earlier where folks were quite critical of California and the entire West Coast. I understand that criticism and frustration. However, you need to understand that these States have been taken over by the same kind of people who are taking over this country. I was at the Florida College Lectures a few years ago and I remember someone in a row behind me saying out loud that they wondered whther there were any christians in California. One of the ladies in the row ahead of me who was from the same Northern Illinois area they were from and known to them turned and said absolutely. Her Dad was Glen Cheatham. He had preached for 5 years at the Sunnyvale church of Christ. He had left there a year or two before my wife and I started attending there. I do not think those people realized that there were some preachers on the agenda who were preaching or had preached in California. There are many churches of Christ all over California, Oregon, and Washington. We know that in Washington there are quite a few in the Seattle area. As in California the Eastern part of the State tends to be more conservative overall. I tell people that the San Joaquin Valley and Eastern California primarily the farming areas are Oklahoma. As you drive down Interstate 5 and listen to the radio, you primarily get country nd western, you hear preachers with radio programs, and the people sound like they have a texarhoma accent. Just as we know that there are preachers preaching in many foreign lands and there are churches there who are making an influence, their are chrches out West who continue to make an influence. Our friend Darrell Hymel who has been preaching in China for over 20 years has been responsible for getting many churches started there. Darrell has brought many other preachers with him to preach over there over the years. It is funny that some people whom I have spoken with say that they know a preacher such and such who preaches in china and think that they are the only one. They have never heard of Darrell. That is k. It is as it should be. It is not about the preacher. There are churches of Christ in every Province with the exception I think where the moslems are causing all of the problems. For many of these congregations there are Chinese men who are capable preachers. The over all country of China is communist. Christians are having and influence but they are a small fraction of the population. I have talked to Darrell about the fact that culturally the Chinese way of doing business is to lie cheat and steal. That is based upon my wifes experience having worked for a chinese company and my conversations with others who have been Chinese business persons. He said that that was true. Some of the people he had convertede were business people or business majors at some of the Universities. They asked him how are we supposed to do business. He told them that if they applied Christian principles and were honest and righteous, things will work for them and they will be prospered in the right way and in right things.
