I was reading up in the newspapers of other countries on our national day of mourning. I think some of the newspapers found it a bit weird that when the cars with the bodies and the police escort came by on the highway Dutch people were standing on the side of the roads applauding. Id like to explain. We dont just applaud for a theater play we think is well done. But we also thank police for the escort, thanking the drivers for bringing the people home, we thank the military for saluting and paying repect to every coffin that came out of the plane. We thank the pilots, the staff and all involved by applauding for doing the job with the uttermost respect they can show. Applause will have gone off after one minute of silence to praise all that were silent for one minute to remember all the people that past away on the MH17. Just wanted to explain for those of you who did read your newspapers and wondered why on earth we applauded pretty much throughout the day all over the Netherlands.
