I was really hesitant to post on here before but after these last few days I feel like it’s definitely right. I was able to first meet Emma the first day of her freshman year. I was the student leader of her freshman orientation group. Of course I get put with the smartest, most inquiring girl out of the bunch. To make matters worse (or better) I was matched with Mr. Holmes and it was his first year at RHS – he said it was also his second or third time touring the building - so detailed explanations were demanded. But that’s what made the day so much fun. We had to lead most of the freshman around the building to see their typical schedules and hers was by far the most rigorous. Most of our contact that year remained subtle as she would occasionally message me on Facebook or sometimes even text or Snapchat me some great pics with emoji’s over her dancer friends phones. I really got to know Emma a lot better this year though, as she was in my Physics class. Of course, she’s the only sophomore (probably ever) to take both Chem and Physics in the same year. In this class, she put up with most annoying group of guys ever. The senior guys in our class would constantly heckle her but she would fire right back, or just laugh it off. Even after all the jokes she would go out of her way to help us on labs or random work that we needed. She even texted me when our midterm grades came out to see what I got. As everyone knows, that’s how much of a compassionate, caring person she was. She went out of her way to make other peoples lives better. She was so curious and intellectually hungry that nothing could stop her. For that I am truly inspired. Emma has really taught me to keep working hard and not to give up on goals. Since day 1 of her freshman year she was so goal-oriented, so focused, so determined; that everyone knew she was going to make it – wherever she wanted to go she could get there. We all believed it, because she did. And seeing that, I am blessed to have had the chance to meet such a well-rounded person. Thank you Emma. Keep looking out for your friends. Your legacy is one that can never be forgotten. Rest easy.
