I was really touched by the Elliott’s study called “A Class - TopicsExpress

I was really touched by the Elliott’s study called “A Class Divided” so I decided to look up ways that classes are culturally divided for my medial contribution. In the article that I found Allen a middle class Caucasian teacher was the only Caucasian in the classroom. This was an urban school that contained mostly blacks and Hispanics. The article is titled “Bridging cultural divide between teachers, students; Training can help bridge gap between teachers, students”. Allen wanted to overcome the cultural divide between the students, their parents and the educators. With specialized training educator are starting to think that this is an obstacle that can be overcome. The training originally started in Indiana and is called “Cultural competency”. Cultural competency is training that is aimed to give teachers strategies and techniques that can help reach minority students. Educators are hopping that this will capitalize on the culture within the classroom as well as help to understand the differences and their roles. This is done in hopes to help the children learn better. With the rising population of white teacher we need to learn how to help teach these children. The article focuses on the idea that children of different backgrounds should be taught differently.
