I was recently asked what fatherhood meant to me. Fatherhood - TopicsExpress

I was recently asked what fatherhood meant to me. Fatherhood means the world to me. The greatest job a man can have. While I said it all starts with the mother we all know it takes two to make a child and there should be at least two raising said child. Men should understand we aren’t just donors. We can and should be there every step of the way raising our children. Can a woman do it alone? In most cases yes but if you ask any honest woman with kids without a father in their lives she would tell you she prefers the contrary. We men can have the biggest influence on how our children live life and perform in the future. Just look at the sayings singing our praise. “Daddy’s girl.” Not “momma’s girl.” “Like father like son.” Not “Like Momma like son.” A momma’s boy is always seen as a negative. Our young men will emulate the characteristics and behaviors we bestow upon them. Hopefully all good. The best time to be overzealous is in raising our children. Your son sees you sacrificing for the sake of the family and treating others especially women with respect he will most likely do the same. Your daughter observes the long hours you work yet finding time to make her recital or game and keeping mom happy she will most likely settle with a man with your qualities. Fatherhood isn’t to be taken lightly. Whether planned or unplanned they are our children and our responsibility to give the proper tools of life. Be it a hammer or a computer. Hard work, chivalry and a respect and love for life should be taught as the rule and not the exception. It’s not that hard and if you are a father taking the time to read an article on fatherhood then you are most likely doing that now. Keep up the good work great dads and don’t let anyone tell you that you are not needed!! I tell everyone I’d rather be wanted than needed anyway!! When your son scores that winning touchdown or daughter makes that winning basket and looks in the camera and says “Hi mom!!” Don’t let it bother you!! We all know mom needs a little extra ego stroking. Find solace in the fact that when all is said and done you are loved and respected by your offspring and did a great job in spite of many adversities. Love your children and they will love you!! Happy Fathers day Darryl A. Regan (father of 5 biologically and 3 stepsons) darzistic/
