I was recently invited to participate in a Seussville event at Bellview Elementary School. (see some photos on my Books By David Watkins Facebook page) I wrote the following poem specifically for that event. A SONNET FOR SEUSS Born Theodor Geisel a century ago We call him Dr. Seuss (as you probably know) He wrote about cats and grinches and birds He had an amazing way with his words One key to his success was his brilliant timing And he combined this with some excellent rhyming If he couldnt rhyme a word he found useful Hed simply create one...now thats pretty Seuss-ful His books enchant children from every nation And his words have meaning for each generation From his lessons on life, we should take heed So collect his books and just read, read, read Hes here today in spirit - right here at Bellview Hes watching us now; and he has a swell view by David L.
