I was recently on vacation in Florida and came across an unusual policy in the local public library. Magazines can be read only on site; they are marked Reference and cannot be checked out. This is apparently true throughout their system. In fact, I visited another branch and was told they dont circulate magazines there. They do sell them in their Friends shop. Im not talking as a casual visitor; my mom who lives there has a current card and couldnt check them out either. How common is this policy in public libraries? Its the first time Ive run across it.
