I was riding into town around 6 this evening, minding my own - TopicsExpress

I was riding into town around 6 this evening, minding my own business, staying squarely in the bike lane on Pine Street when I swerved a bit to avoid a puddle, still staying within the confines of my assigned lane. Some young twit in a Mazda with one of those tuned mufflers, you know, the kind designed to make a piece of shit car sound exotic, beeped at me and as he went by, he flipped me off and yelled, Watch it old man... Well, wanting to make sure neither one of us misunderstood each other, I guess I was forced to reciprocate with my own upraised digit. Then I realized he was headed toward the Maple Street rush-hour logjam, so I quickened my pace on my bike, caught up with him and slid into the car lane, right in front of him at the stop sign. I looked right. I looked left. I looked right. I looked left. I made damned sure the coast was clear before slowly venturing across the intersection. As I turned up King Street, my heart beating rather strenuously, I realized how lucky that punk was that I had gotten five stents a year and a half ago, otherwise I could have had a heart attack right in front of his car at the corner. Then I could have said... See what you did... to him as the ambulance was carting me off. That would have really taught him a lesson. Yes, this old man can be a brat sometimes, but I have to admit, it felt good.
