I was sad today to read of the passing of Jerome Letourneau, who was one of the kindest and sweetest men Ive ever known. I had the pleasure of serving with Jerome on the Cloud County Resource Council for several years, and during my time as president of the organization, he was the board member I most leaned on for guidance and leadership. He was a thoughtful listener, a rational thinker, and when doling out advice, you always knew his heart was in the right place. Its solely because of Jerome that I even started volunteering as a bell ringer for the Cloud County Resource Center and Food Bank, now concluding my second-year as the programs organizer. The annual Christmas bell ringing project through Salvation Army truly excited Jerome. For many years, he worked tirelessly to generate dollars for the organization, and he and I would often talk about the unbelievable generosity of the people in our community. And I know it always filled Jerome with such happiness to see the tremendous joy on the faces of young people whenever he dressed up for the part. While his health limited his involvement in recent years, every time I ran into Jerome, he always stopped me to ask about the organization and promised that when/if he ever felt better, hed be back outside ready to volunteer. It was wonderful to see that even in tough times, his infectious spirit and warmth never declined. I didnt know him that well, or for that long, but it was easy to see he was one of the good ones. He will be missed.
