I was saddened to learn of the death of Henry Dowdy this morning. I am so glad I went and sat with him at the hospital yesterday. Henry lived 98 years in Varina and was a well known, hard working, very smart business person. He would give you the shirt off his back. I used to enjoy listening to his stories of growing up in the Depression but sometimes they took a while to tell :). After he married my grandmother I became closer to him and he took a chance on me and loaned me construction funds for the first house I ever built almost 20 years ago and for that Im grateful. If you know elderly folks, take an hour out if your busy schedule and go sit a spell with them, I garuntee you will learn more useable knowledge from them than not...RIP Henry.
