I was scheduled to work from 2-10p tonight. My lunch break should have fallen about 5:30 or 6. A little after 5, the Head Cashier came and asked me if Id like to take my 15-miinute break or take a slightly early lunch. I told him Id really like to go to lunch, since I was going to try to go find a freebie Veterans Day meal. Got clocked out and I recalled my longtime friend, Paul Flather Woods mentioning earlier today that Rib Crib was offering freebie meals. Rib Crib is about 2 blocks from the store. I hopped into the car and went roaring down there. The parking lot had plenty of parking places, and I went inside and was pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately. Rib Crib offers veterans their choice from the full regular menu, as opposed to most places which put out a special menu for the freebie meals. The All you can eat ribs special on Tuesday was also available. Well, I opted for the AYCE Ribs, got two sides with it, as well as toast and a small cobette of corn. In addition, the drink AND dessert (Cheesecake!) came with it. Such a deal. They didnt eve bring me a check -- the manager came over and comped out my ticket (after looking at my military ID). I had to ask for them to re-open it so Id know how much to tip my server. I was easily in and out of there and back to the store in the appointed hour. Im not really big on ribs, as Im not fond of the mess, but these ribs (baby back) were fall-off-the-bone tender. All I had to do was cut the individual ribs from the slab on the plate. They were tender with just a slight blush of pink so they werent dry. Thank you Paul Flather Woods for the tip!
