I was scrolling through Pat’s blog and was so excited at the Modegan Deck artwork of the Grey Riders. Pat’s words beneath the image are: “This is one of the pieces of art Shane made for the Modegan Pairs deck in our most recent kickstarter. It shows the Grey Riders. They haven’t shown up in the books. Yet.” YET. We’ve been discussing Bredon recently, and the possibility that he’s Fae and Denna’s patron. From Denna’s letter to Kvothe in Book 2, pgs 314-315, Denna’s patron apparently brought her along to a little horseback battle. The exact line: “I have spent some time in the Small Kingdoms and saw a skirmish between two bands of mounted men.” The Small Kingsoms border along both the Eld and Modeg. The description of Bredon’s cane, Book 2, pg 387: ‘The sunlight caught on the polished silver handle wrought in the shape of a snarling wolf’s head.’ The description of Bredon’s colors, same page: ‘His colors weren’t colors at all, merely ash grey and a dark charcoal.’ And the rumor of Bredon, Book 2, pg 499: ‘He was said to conduct pagan rituals in the secluded woods outside his northern estates.’ . Take a look at the Grey Riders artwork of the Modegan Deck – mounted riders, grey coloring, snarling wolves at the front. Thoughts?
