I was sent an email from a friend in the entertainment industry, whom I have gotten to know very well over the past 8 years. I have dealt with her agency and management firm for about 17 years now, dating back to my days in the automotive industry with Lexus. She writes in her email that her Lexus lease is coming due in July, which I was aware of. She goes on to write how she stopped by a local Southern California dealership to look at their products. She is an African American women small in stature wearing a baseball cap, no makeup and sunglasses, unrecognized. She walked into this dealership about 4 in the afternoon after going to the gym. As she steers her way through the showroom looking at cars, she was finally approached by a sales consultant of the dealership who introduced himself. She went on to write how she started to ask questions about the SUV she was interested in, the salesman asked her if she could afford their product and what her credit score was. She replied that she thinks she will be ok on both. Not disclosing who she was to the dealerships consultant, she thanked him for his time. As he walked away he says softly why do these people come in here and waste our time.. She never said a word. As she closes her email, she thanked me for how I treated her the first time we met, under similar circumstances. She says thats why she has continued to do business with me and refer others. She writes in closing thank you for being you! Love, Halle I sent the dealership GM an email. Noting, profiling, racism and whatever your consultants practice is not the best way to do business. !! Thank god your dealership is not in my network!
