I was shocked to learn Paul Finnegan, the chef from Finnegan’s Pub in Dalkey, passed away peacefully at St Vincent’s Hospital on Wednesday. Paul made headlines last year when he served up a meal to the US First Lady and her girls Malia and Sasha. Paul joined my radio guest list last year and when I asked him what the Obamas had eaten he replied: “It was nothing exotic – just fish and chips. Actually, one of the girls had cottage pie. I think I’m going to have to change it to Obama pie.” As well as feeding the First Lady and her children, Paul also cooked for many famous people from all over. Ireland has lost an exceptional chef and modest gentleman. Paul, I know youll be greatly missed. R.I. P
