I was shocked when I happened to see chessgames list of top sacrificial chess players did not have Tal. They produced a list of the top 40 players who most often do winning sacrifices. This is defined as when i a player gives up material even if temporarily and wins the game. Looking closer I noticed that although Tal, my hero is not on the list of top 40, he does have most number of games out of all those 40 players. So it then occurred to me that perhaps the list we want to see is the players with most sacrifices period. A very busy GM could play thousands of winning sacrificial games but if they played lots of games anyway they would not appear on the list. Thats how a list of top 40 sacrificial chess players can not have Tal in it. An astounding piece of statistical analysis. chessgames/chessstats.html
