I was sitting and sweeping through my Lightroom catalog on my new computer to clean out unwanted images and going through everything put in me in a very reflective mood. Less than two and a half years ago I picked up a camera out of a personal need to do SOMETHING. Anything, other than work and come home to an empty apartment everyday after some personal changes in my life. I have no musical talent, no artistic talent, and Im not a very good writer. I figured, at the very least, I could shoot a camera. (And man, am I still learning that.) I did the Colorado thing. I went to the mountains. Shot leaves, shot trees, shot the mountains; but it bored me. I decided to shoot a parade for something interesting, and found myself shooting the crowd instead. I became familiar with street photography, I searched the internet, I read books, learned techniques. Quickly I started publishing my shots on sites like 500px, Flickr, and Facebook. I found blackandwhitestreet and great mentors such as Gardner Hamilton and Bogdan Radu , Michael Steverson and Leanne Staples. I started having hopes of maybe getting published, or one day in a gallery. That was my goal. Last year Gardner welcomed me as and admin for blackandwhitestreet. An honor I still hold more dear than he probably realizes. I helped curate and publish a book with the other admins and the fabulous editing of Bogdan. Ive been chosen twice this year to have my work displayed at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center in Denver. And just recently Ive been recognized and published on the National Geographic website. Ive shot past my goal of being shown and have so much to be thankful for pursuing this hobby and the people in my life that understand my need for it such as my wonderful other, Amanda. Everything else from here on out is just gravy man.
