I was sitting at my cramped little second home in the back of yet another American Airlines flight earlier today (I tried counting the number of flights I was on this year and got July to December pretty accurate at somewhere in the high 40s, but could not quite nail down the details of the first six months (though the answer might scare me)) and watched a movie about Marco Polo who took apparently 3 years to make it from Venice to Mongolia. Pretty amazing how the world got so much smaller and how a 5,000km flight for a 2 day meeting is really nothing special anymore (though I think my Dad was a lot smarter when he took a ship from Bremen to New York to go to New York for business back in the 60s – can you imagine how fabulous it would be to spent 7days going to a meeting without the chance of being reached by phone, fax or god-forbid email???!). I had a lovely dinner with some fabulous British friends who started travelling the word much earlier than I did, probably best described as ‘Old China Hands’ due to the extensive time spent in the Orient. In good British manner we headed out to a Sunday Night Curry (not an easy feat to find in decent quality in the US, never mind in Miami), a fabulous tradition that I remember from our years in Hong Kong. Well sure enough, I could not just sit there and enjoy dinner without thinking about another fabulous British chap and his take on Indian food, Rowan Atkinson. It turns out that yesterday’s video about beauty triggered quite a few interesting thoughts, ranging from “this is total nonsense, they were not regular people but all very good looking, as a matter of fact I would have slept with all of them before I was married” to “ you should have send this a few days earlier, before I spent all this money on my plastic surgeon this weekend’.
