I was sitting here waiting on a client of mine to come out this morning. I had my mail unopened in car, looked down opened my alumni book from UNCP. I had tears flow from my eyes to my surprise, my old Mentor, kin, inspiration as teen was in the book. Ruth Revels, appointed Chair of the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs by Gov.Pat McCory!!! Now, my history with Ms.Revels is a underestimated inspiration for me. She had me. nominated House of NC Page in 1982, Youth of Year, Modeling years after school and so inspired to be anything i wanted!!! I even applied for full scholarship at High Point University 1995-1998. This lady spoke highly of her youth at Guilford Native. She would say Sharon you can be anything your hearts desire!!! Be confident baby, be proud, Native women were strong leaders...Her and my Mom pushed me, and i was shy!!! Well i messed up got married, but i never forgot my young years!! Really pushes me now..Im not there yet, but Im not messing up no more!!! I might be forgetful at times, but i know how to speak up, dont quit, and ignore negative !!!!Takes just one person to inspire a child, no matter who they are...CONGRATULATIONS RUTH REVELS!!!!Well desearved honor, love you, hope meet soon again....
